The St. Louis Blues made two trades Tuesday, acquiring Mathieu Joseph from the Ottawa Senators and Radek Faksa from the Dallas Stars.

Joseph has been the subject of persistent trade rumors for quite some time now. He’s headed to St. Louis along with a third-round pick in the 2025 draft in exchange for future considerations.

The Senators had every intention of trimming their payroll. With just over $7 million available, general manager Steve Staois could have more latitude to sign forward Shane Pinto, who is unhappy with his situation with the Sens.

Last year, the Quebec forward had the most productive season of his career with 11 goals and 24 assists in 72 regular season games.

The Laval, Que., native has 55 goals and 80 assists in 360 career games with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Senators.

Joseph was acquired by the Sens at the 2022 trade deadline.

Next year, Joseph will enter the third year of a four-year contract that pays him an average of $2.95 million per campaign.

According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Blues could reunite the Joseph brothers, as he mentions the organization has an interest in defenseman Pierre-Olivier.

For his part, Faksa has scored seven goals and added 12 assists in 74 games, in addition to adding a goal in nine playoff games.

Faksa missed part of Dallas’ run to the Western Conference final with an injury, but he scored the game-winning goal in Game 7 of the first-round series against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Faksa, 31, will be in the fifth and final year of his five-year contract, which pays him an average of $3.25 million per season.

Faksa has played all 638 of his career regular season games with the Stars. He was selected 13th overall in the first round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Mid-afternoon, the Blues indicated that they had offered a six-year contract extension worth $48 million. His new contract with an annual value of $8 million will start for the 2025-26 season.

Last season, the 29-year-old forward had 63 points in 80 games. He joined the Blues for the 2021-22 season after five seasons in the New York Rangers organization.
This season, Buchnevich will earn a salary of $5.8 million.
