Tiger Woods is still recovering from the back surgery he underwent last September and the Golf legend must give up his participation in the Hero World Challenge.
Woods made the announcement on Monday, he who is the organizer of the event. He usually makes a few appearances on the field in December, with the Hero World Challenge and the PNC Championship, a parent-child tournament that he usually plays with his son Charlie.
“I’m disappointed I won’t be able to compete in the Hero World Challenge this year, but I’m looking forward to hosting the tournament and spending the week with @HeroMotoCorp,” Woods wrote on social network X.
Woods also announced that Justin Thomas, Jason Day and Nick Dunlap had received the final three exemptions to participate in the tournament which only has 20 players.
Woods has played in five tournaments in 2024 – all four majors plus the Genesis Invitational. He hasn’t played a tournament since the British Open in July.
The 48-year-old American has made just 10 starts since the accident that almost cost him his life in 2021.
This year at the Masters Tournament, he reached the weekend rounds with cards of 73 and 72, but then lost his rhythm with scores of 82 and 77.
Scottie Scheffler is the reigning tournament champion, following victories by Viktor Hovland in 2021 and 2022.
