Kaylia Nemour was born in , in Indre-et-, to an Algerian father, Jamel Nemour, and a French mother, Stéphanie. His father, also born in France, is from the town of Jijel.

If Kaylia has already adopted her father’s nationality, her mother should soon obtain it.

« Kaylia Nemour’s mother applied for Algerian nationality and will soon take Algerian nationality “, Mustapha Berraf, former president of the Algerian Olympic Committee and president of the Association of African Olympic Committees, told TSA.

Married to an Algerian, Stéphanie Nemour has the right to Algerian nationality. In addition, “ his daughter holds the Algerian National Order of Merit », recalls Mustapha Berraf.

How to obtain Algerian nationality?

For foreigners wishing to apply for Algerian nationality, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs requires certain conditions to be met.

When a foreign person marries an Algerian, he or she can acquire Algerian nationality if it is proven that the marriage is “ legal » and established for at least 3 years at the time of the request.

The Algerian Nationality Code also imposes “ habitual and regular residence in Algeria for at least two (02) years ”, as well as a justification of “ sufficient means of existence ».

This same person must demonstrate good morals and behave well. This condition applies to any other person requesting Algerian nationality.

With regard to any other applicant for nationality, he must have reached his majority and been resident in Algeria for at least 7 years on the day of the application, as well as “ at the time of signing the decree granting naturalization ».

The applicant must also prove his integration into the Algerian community, justify “ sufficient means of existence » and be “ healthy in body and mind ».

By consulting the Algerian Nationality Code, it is indicated that a foreigner can be naturalized if he has rendered “ exceptional services to Algeria or whose infirmity or illness was contracted in the service or in the interest of Algeria » or if his naturalization “ is of exceptional interest to Algeria ».

As for the children and spouse of a deceased foreigner who could obtain Algerian nationality during his lifetime, they are able to “ apply for naturalization posthumously, at the same time as their application for naturalization ».

Concerning minor children, they become Algerians at the same time as their parent becomes Algerian and can renounce Algerian nationality within 2 years after reaching the age of majority.

Once Algerian nationality is obtained, the person will benefit from the same rights and have the same obligations as Algerian citizens.
