Johan Djourou has been appointed sports coordinator of the national women’s A team. One year before “its” Euro, the ASF continues to strengthen itself in terms of structures.

A 76-time Swiss international, the 37-year-old from Geneva ended his playing career in 2021 in Denmark. The former Arsenal and Hamburg defender, in particular, had been committed in recent months to ensuring that the Women’s Euro 2025, which will be played in Switzerland from July 2 to 27, would not be cut from the financial resources that had initially been allocated to it.

At the end of January, the Federal Council only wanted to support the Euro with 4 million francs. The Council of States finally decided unanimously in mid-March to increase the tournament’s budget to 15 million.

The aim is for this home Euro to leave a lasting impression on women’s football in Switzerland.
