The Tampa Bay Lightning certainly did not want to let Jake Guentzel, whose rights were acquired Sunday from the Carolina Hurricanes, slip away on the free agent market.

Indeed, he agreed for seven seasons, for a salary of $9 million per campaign, with the Florida team on Monday.

His contract includes a complete no-movement clause for the first four years. For the last two seasons of this pact, he has the right to submit to the Lightning a list of 10 teams where he would agree to be traded, according to Pierre LeBrun of the TSN network.

Traded by the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Hurricanes at the last trade deadline, the 29-year-old winger has 30 goals and 47 assists for 77 points in 67 games in 2023-24, adding nine points to his record in 11 meetings during the most recent playoffs.

The 77th overall pick in the 2013 National Hockey League draft just saw his five-year, $30 million contract, signed with the Penguins in December 2018, expire Monday.
