WATCH: Quinn Hughes sent off for vicious hit

Vancouver Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes isn’t known for his rugged or vicious play. And yet, he gave a hard check to Ottawa Senators forward Josh Norris on Saturday.

In the first period, the little back tackled from behind his opposite number while the latter handled the puck along the ramp. Following this blow, Norris retreated towards his team’s locker room. Watch the sequence in the main video.

After the match, won 4 to 3 by the Canucks, Norris still bore the traces of his meeting with the gang.

Hughes, for his part, received a five-minute penalty and a game misconduct. Despite his absence for almost the entire game, the Canucks still won. In fact, they took a 4-1 lead midway through the third period when Kiefer Sherwood beat goaltender Linus Ullmark, before seeing the Senators score two unanswered goals through Tim Stützle and Claude Giroux.

Jake DeBrusk made the red light shine twice in his team’s victory, ending his evening of work with three points. Teddy Blueger also scored for the Canucks, while Brady Tkachuk provided the other response for Ottawa.
