Marithé Engondo won the silver medal in the high jump at the Swiss championships in Winterthur. The 22-year-old Vaudoise passed a bar at 1m85, 5 centimeters from her personal best, but 7 centimeters from the Olympic minimums. The competition was won by Salome Lang from Basel, who won her seventh national title in the discipline. In the men’s race, Noam Pritchett won with a jump of 2m09.

In the men’s 400m, Lionel Spitz won the national title with a fantastic time of 45”01, shattering his personal best (45”25). The Fribourgeois Charles Devantay (26 years old) took silver, with a time of 46”64, ahead of another Fribourgeois, Vincent Gendre (22 years old), bronze medalist (46”77).

The day after his victory in the 100m, sprint star Mujinga Kambundji did it again in the 200m. The Bernoise won in 22”42, ahead of two Vaudoises. Silver medalist, Léonie Pointet achieved her personal best mark in 22”72, a time much faster than her previous record of 22”96. On the third step of the podium, Sarah Atcho-Jaquier from Lausanne set her best time of the season (22”91).

Yet another great performance for William Reais, bronze medallist at the European Championships in Rome, in the men’s 200m. The Grisons native is the new national king of the discipline (20”27). Geneva’s Felix Svensson won silver (20’30) and Neuchâtel’s Bradley Lestrade, a member of Lausanne-Sports, won bronze (20’93).

In the 400m hurdles, Julien Bonvin from Valais, who qualified for the Olympics on Friday in the heats, was unable to win gold, beaten by LC Zurich runner Dany Brand. It was Thurgau’s Yasmin Giger who won in the women’s race (54”77).

Joseph before Ehammer

Still in the hurdles, but in the 110m, it was Basel’s Jason Joseph who won (13”26) ahead of Appenzell’s Simon Ehammer (13”38) and Lucerne’s Fabio Küchler (13”92). In the women’s 100m hurdles, Annik Kälin from Grisons won a second gold medal after the one she won in the long jump on Friday.

In the 800m, among the ladies, the runner from Bassecourt, Rachel Pellaud, was the fastest (1’58”60), ahead of Audrey Werro from Fribourg.

Finally, in the discus throw, Geneva’s Colline Cottier won gold (47m31) and in the triple jump, another Genevan, Juliana Soares, took bronze, both achieving their best personal result.
