The political scene in this charming country currently resembles that of a “Lambi Golo”. A single wrestler faces many opponents whose common point is that they want to make him bite the dust in the most humiliating way possible. Some of them promised to give him the final blow in the event of a second round that never happened. Among his opponents who do not wish him well, there are people who did not manage to pass the sponsorship sieve and others who got 0% during the March consultation! And it is these losers who happen to be among the loudest mouths, disputing the leadership of the Opposition with those more electorally representative than them. Suffice to say that those who gesticulate the most and shoot at everything that moves, and particularly at the one they wish a first-class political burial, are the very ones who should shut up. And then there are the others… These are the self-proclaimed political scientists, columnist-swindlers and constipated and cantankerous journalists who turn into birds of ill omen and play Cassandras. They talk at every turn and in every tone about an institutional crisis that only exists in their minds. Senegal has seen others but, by the grace of God, has never sunk. What is happening is far from being a crisis but a sterile agitation of bad losers who have for a long time amused themselves with the laws of the Republic, defeating and killing adversaries according to their mood. Or, rather, that of their Leader whose deputies they claimed to be. And not the representatives of the people who were supposed to have elected them. The situation seems very simple to us, however. The wrestler says he is ready to face them provided that they modify the internal regulations of their Assembly in order to allow him to come and confront them in all legality. Especially since a particularly perceptive MP, because he was studying these files, had drawn the attention of “Sleepy Mame Diop”—as Donald Trump nicknamed the American President Jo Biden—the sleeping President of our Assembly is buffooning this failure. But since they are used to wiping their hands on the laws, chasing from the chamber whoever they want and however they want and turning a blind eye to what suits them, here they are caught up in their perfidies. We must quickly move beyond this situation and get to the essentials. GENERAL COMPETITION 2024 100 WINNERS OBTAIN 112 DISTINCTIONS
The results of the 2024 edition of the Concours général are known. One hundred candidates obtained 64 prizes and 48 accessits, or 112 distinctions in total, of which 63 went to students in the first year of secondary school. The announcement was made yesterday by the Minister of National Education, Moustapha Guirassy. ”We recorded 112 distinctions: 64 prizes and 48 accessits. There are 63 distinctions for candidates in the first year of secondary school and 49 for those in the final year of secondary school,” Mr. Guirassy said at a press conference. Fifty-four winners of the prizes awarded to first year students are enrolled in public education, with students from private schools having obtained nine prizes. The total number of winners is 100, including 53 girls. ”The 2024 edition of the Concours général took place in good conditions. The organization was satisfactory. The subjects were […] of a level of requirement consistent with the usual tests of the General Competition”, stressed Moustapha Guirassy. There were a total of 3,203 candidates, including 1,865 girls (58.22%), compared to 3,054 in 2023. The tests covered 32 disciplines, including languages (German, French, English, Arabic, etc.), citizenship and human rights, physical education and sports, history and geography, mathematics, life and earth sciences. Mechanical construction, philosophical dissertation, electronics and electrical engineering, Islamic studies, economics and accounting techniques were also among the disciplines in which the candidates were assessed. And Catholic studies? Note that Senegal is a secular country!
PUBLIC SCHOOLS OUTGROUND PRIVATE SCHOOLS
The 2024 edition of the Concours Général sees public education triumph over private education. The results posted show that public schools won 84.82% of the distinctions (prizes and accessits) in the Concours Général this year, and those in the private sector 15.17%. Forty-one of the prizewinners in the final year classes go to public schools, compared to eight for their peers in private education. Girls obtained 57 distinctions, or 50.98%, with 36 prizes and 25 accessits. Boys won 55 distinctions, including 32 prizes, or 49.02%.
HIGH COUNCIL OF THE MAGISTRATE MAGISTRATE MAMADOU DIOP APPOINTED SECRETARY GENERAL
The High Council of the Judiciary (CSM) has a new Secretary General. Indeed, through a decree dated June 27, the Head of State, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, also President of the CSM, appointed to this position the magistrate Mamadou Diop, current Secretary General of the Ministry of Justice, cumulatively with his functions, Secretary General of the High Council of the Judiciary. He replaces Alioune Ndiaye in this position called to other functions.
BACCALAUREATE 2024 159,487 CANDIDATES THROUGHOUT THE TERRITORY
Candidates for the 2024 baccalaureate will take the exam starting this Tuesday, July 2, 2024. In total, 159,487 candidates will take this exam to obtain the first higher education diploma. The jury members will number 10,008 examiners, 11,392 invigilators for 486 examination centers. The Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, Dr. Abdourahmane Diouf will go to some centers in Dakar on the morning of this Tuesday, the first day of the exam.
RTS: POPE GOES ON A CRUSADE AGAINST RACINE TALLA’S BAMBOULA…
Pape Allé Niang is determined to restore order at RTS. Through a memo, the CEO of RTS has decided to suspend the Company Agreement signed on March 29 by his predecessor Racine Talla, which granted certain categories of the company salaries and allowances that increased for some from 150,000 to 800,000 francs, while others benefited from recruitment and contracts with a strong impact on the company’s finances. These agreements, if applied in all their clauses, will have an annual financial impact of 1 billion 800 million francs and an impact of 1 billion 350 million francs for the current year alone. At least, this is what CEO Pape Allé Niang maintains through a memo. So many reasons why he simply decided to suspend this company agreement of March 27, 2024 on the basis of which the salaries for the months of April and May were paid. Payments “without any legal basis since there is no official decree or order setting out the terms of this operation. From now on, from the end of June 2024, salaries will be processed in accordance with the Company Agreement of March 25, 2005.”
…RTS UNIONISTS SOUND THE RETALIATION
Needless to say, the RTS unionists do not intend to let their CEO Pape Allé Niang quietly roll out his project and, above all, call into question the Company Agreement of March 29, 2024. The college of delegates has called the troops together for today through a general information meeting. On the agenda, the “crisis” situation at RTS, the “unpopular” measures of the general management for the reduction of salaries, the dismissal of contract workers, suspension of the company agreement, the reduction of performance bonuses to 100 thousand francs and the elimination of common funds. Things are going to get heated this Tuesday, July 2 at RTS.
VACUUM TRUCKS DUMPING EXCREMENT IN THE STREET
Saturday, June 29, 2024, the reporting vehicle of the daily newspaper “Le Témoin” takes the road to Rufisque. At the village of Keur Mbaye Fall, two sewage trucks are parked on the right side of the road. Motorists and pedestrians thought they had broken down since the two heavy goods vehicles were seriously disrupting road traffic. They were not! The two trucks were simply dumping their fecal sludge and other excrement into the street. It is precisely a sewer manhole on the edge of the road and intended for rainwater. What infuriates “Le Témoin” is the tolerance or even the lack of vigilance of the agents of the hygiene service, the police and the gendarmerie in the face of the recurring behavior of these uncivil and undisciplined drivers. It is this kind of unsanitary acts that makes Senegal a country with permanent pandemic and epidemic diseases.
