Formula 1 | Ferrari made progress in qualifying but the SF-24 bounced back again

Carlos Sainz had a good weekend at the Red Bull Ring, first with fifth place in the Sprint, which earned him four points, then with fourth place on the starting grid, with a new second row.

He admitted that he and Leclerc use different settings to overcome “The bounces that torment us in the fast corners here as in Barcelona. We suffer a lot.”

“We are trying to change the car to see if we can get rid of this phenomenon that is weighing on us and maybe I managed to make the car fast but I suffered quite a bit throughout qualifying, I even had some behavioral problems, I scared myself.”

“In any case, when it was time, I was able to put in a good lap and squeeze between the two Mercedes, who I think have a bit more under the pedal than us this weekend.”

“Max is in another league and unless something strange happens with Lando in front, he will win. Our fight is with Mercedes and Piastri and if something happens, we have to try to take advantage of it for a podium.”

Leclerc was a little more satisfied with his Ferrari SF-24 on Canal+. He will start 6th.

“Honestly, it worked better than I thought. In Q3, it’s my fault, I didn’t do the job. Finally I did the job on the first set of tires with the worn tires. On the second, I lock up at turn 4 and spend the rest of the lap trying to make up for what I lost in that turn.”

“It’s a shame because the lap looked pretty good up until then, maybe front row, I don’t know what time they did in front. But with ‘ifs’ we could have done a lot. The result is that we had to change the car, I’m on the right track but in Q3 I didn’t do the job.”

“I think it’s going to be better than in the Sprint race, but there’s still a lot of work to do to be at the level of Red Bull and McLaren, who have taken a step forward. We still have a lot of work left but we’ve done a lot. step forward from Sprint qualifying to qualifying.”
