July 1st moves | 38 people temporarily housed in emergency in Montreal

As of 1is July, while many Montrealers are moving, no fewer than 147 households are actively supported by the Office municipal d’habitation de Montréal (OMHM) to find housing. In addition to this number, 38 people are already being housed in emergency accommodation by the OMHM.

Ce 1is July will have been no exception to the rule. While some unpack the boxes, several hundred households find themselves once again in need.

According to the most recent data from the Société d’Habitation du Québec (SHQ), as of Monday morning, there were 1,296 tenant households in Quebec who are actively supported by a housing search assistance service. Across the province, 384 households are currently without housing and in temporary accommodation, whether with relatives, camping or otherwise.

“In certain exceptional and emergency cases, it is possible to offer temporary accommodation, a service which varies greatly from one person to another,” explains the director of the OMHM communications service, Mathieu Vachon. This accommodation is with Montreal hotel partners. »

The organization also offers moving and storage services as possible “exceptional services.”

For its part, the office of the mayor of the City of Montreal, Valérie Plante, says it is ready to support all people in need on this 1is July.

“The moving period is stressful for many Montrealers, an increasing number of whom are having difficulty finding housing options that meet their needs and their budget,” says the mayor’s office. We are here for you. »
