At 24 years old, the puncher from Grandparigny (Manche), crowned champion of France on his land, Sunday June 23, 2024, will discover the Grande Boucle. Ex-Norman professional Mikaël Cherel, originally from Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët (Manche), mentor and former teammate of Lapeira, looks back on this crazy week and the pitfalls that the Manchois will have to avoid.

Are you surprised by how the race went and Paul Lapeira’s victory, despite all the pressure put on his shoulders?

I wasn’t surprised by his attitude during the race, unlike his double in the Coupe de France, at the end of March 2024. Given the way he behaves in the finals of the race, and his character, I’m not surprised. But, clearly, the way he keeps his cool in front of thousands of supporters who only had him, it was amazing.
