Uruguay is getting closer to the quarter-finals of the Copa America after its easy success against Bolivia (5-0) on the second day of the group stage. The night was also turbulent for the United States and Folarin Balogun who denounced racist acts.

Uruguay spent a quiet evening on Thursday against Bolivia (5-0), during the 2nd day of the group stage of the Copa America, in East Rutheford (New Jersey), and got closer to quarter-finals.

It took Marcelo Bielsa’s Celeste just eight minutes to take the lead, with a header from young midfielder Facundo Pellistri, who was on loan from Manchester United to Malaga last season. Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez was very active and doubled the lead in the 21st minute thanks to an inspired pass from Maximiliano Araujo.

Bolivia was underwater and would never resurface, scoring only one shot in the match, compared to nine for Uruguay. At the end of the match, it was Araujo’s turn to find the net (77th), then Federico Valverde (81st), on a classic one-two with Pellistri, and finally Rodrigo Bentancur (89th), who headed a free kick from Giorgian de Arrascaeta.

Balogun denounces racist acts

The night was also marked by racist acts following the match between the United States, the host country, and Panama (1-2). Goal scorer in this match for the North Americans, AS Monaco striker Folarin Balogun received racist comments on his Instagram account after his team’s defeat.

“Our organization is constantly working to evolve a new culture that eradicates expressions of racism, offensive content on social networks and any type of violence or discrimination around our football,” Copa America communicated on its account x.

The last day of this group C of the Copa America will take place on Tuesday July 2 (3am) with a clash between the United States and Uruguay and Bolivia and Panama.
