In a year or a year and a half, following the final date on which the next CAN 2025 will be set, the biggest African teams will compete in Morocco to try to succeed Ivory Coast, winner of the last edition. In the meantime, it’s time for the qualifiers and CAF, this Thursday, announced with a little more precision the date of the draw for these qualifiers which will take place on July 4 at 2:30 p.m. French time.

The race towards the CAF TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2025 will be officially launched on Thursday July 4, 2024 with the draw for the qualifiers for the said competition, in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The draw will be made at the SuperSport studios at 2:30 p.m. local time (3:30 p.m. Cairo time, 12:30 p.m. GMT).

48 nations, including the four winners of the preliminary round (Chad, Eswatini, Liberia and South Sudan), will be divided into 12 groups of four teams.

Reigning African champion, Ivory Coast, tops the list of nations confirmed for this draw, as do Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eswatini and Ethiopia.

Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Morocco, Mauritania, Mozambique and Namibia will also be part of this draw.

The other countries involved are Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The start of the qualifiers for the CAF TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2025 is scheduled for September 2024. Only 23 teams will qualify for CAN 2025. These nations will join Morocco, which is already qualified as host country.

After the TotalEnergies 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, during which the Elephants defied all odds to win their third title, the 35th edition of the great celebration of African football also promises to offer a series of exciting encounters for all observers of the beautiful game.
