We place a lot of emphasis on young people in Montreal. This is the principle of reconstruction.
But when things go wrong, you can sometimes wonder how much the plan is worth it. And that’s why TSN’s text on the under-24 groups across the NHL serves as a reminder: the CH does not have a bad future.
Basically, the Canadiens have the best group of players aged 23 and under in the NHL, according to Bell’s platform.
A guy like Nick Suzuki is therefore not eligible for the ranking, but Kirby Dach and Arber Xhekaj are. But yet the two players are not in the club’s top-10, according to TSN.
It’s Cole Caufield who finds himself in the front row.
Ivan Demidov (second row) and Caufield are the only players who received an AA rating. No youngster from CH is at AAA, which is the maximum that TSN offers to rank guys.
But still: CH has six hopefuls/youngsters who have at least an A. This means that the following four players have an A grade.
- Juraj Slafkovsky
- Lane Hutson
- Jacob Fowler
- Kaiden Guhle
The CH is not to be pitied since many clubs cannot form a top-4 without going to C. And apart from the Red Wings, no one else has 10 prospects/young people with at least a B.
In Montreal, here are those who have a B.
- Michael Hage
- Joshua Roy
- Logan Mailloux
- David Reinbacher
So there are six guys out of the 10 who are not yet in Montreal. Roy and Mailloux have already had playing time with the CH and we should see them again in town this year.
Michael Hage and Jacob Fowler are too strong for the NCAA…
David Reinbacher, injured, could take longer than the others to arrive. And for those who see the glass half full, seeing a fifth overall pick at 10th overall says a lot about the rest of the pool.
And obviously there is Demidov. Yes, on paper, the CH is in good hands.
