NHL: Canucks keep Tyler Myers in Vancouver for three seasons

The Vancouver Canucks and their general manager Patrick Allvin continued to make moves on Thursday by offering a new three-year contract for an annual average of $3 million to defenseman Tyler Mylers.

The day before, the Canucks traded Ilya Mikheyev to the Blackhawks in order to reduce their payroll for July 1. In return, the Hawks got their hands on a second-round pick in 2027, as well as the negotiating rights to forward Sam Lafferty, who is eligible for full free agency.

In his last contract, Myers was earning an average of $6 million per season.

The 6-foot-8 guard played in 995 regular season games in the NHL where he spent an average of 21:53 on the ice. During his career, he amassed 371 points, including 93 goals, in addition to maintaining a +7 differential.

During the 2023-24 season, he played 77 games, averaging 18:57 on ice, recording five goals and 24 assists for 29 points and a +16 rating. He also blocked 136 shots and delivered 110 hits.

Joshua gets pay rise

The Canucks also signed forward Dakota Joshua.

The latter receives a significant salary increase with this new four-year pact worth $13 million. After two seasons at $825,000, he will pocket $3.25 million annually.

The 28-year-old forward is coming off a season of 32 points in 63 games. He contributed in the playoffs with eight points in 13 games.

“Dakota had a great season and made great progress,” Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin said in a statement.

“We really like his size (six-foot-three, 206 pounds), his speed and his toughness. He fits well in our system, and I look forward to seeing him continue to develop.”
