During the second preliminary round, Goffin defeated the Japanese Yasutaka Uchiyama (ATP 203), 31, in two sets 7-6 (7/4) and 6-4.

The third and final round of qualifying is played in three winning sets unlike the first two.

Goffin, 33, was eliminated for the second time in his career in qualifying for the London tournament after his first participation in 2011 where he was also eliminated in the 3rd preliminary round.

This defeat ends a series of 7 consecutive victories for the former world No.7 on grass this season who won the Ilkley Challenger 125 on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, Zizou Bergs (ATP 79/N.3) defeated Kazakh Denis Yevseyev (ATP 163) 6-1, 6-2 and 6-2 in 1h21. The Belgian N.1 will take part in his second Wimbledon after 2022.

This season David Goffin played the first two rounds of the grand slam. At the Australian Open, he qualified but was eliminated in the first round of the final draw by Frenchman Ugo Humbert (ATP 16). At Roland Garros, he was eliminated in the second round after his defeat against the German Alexander Zverev (ATP 4), future finalist.
