Kaiden Guhle in Ottawa: Derick Brassard comments on the rumor

The Ottawa Senators are pushing for Kaiden Guhle.

The young Montreal Canadiens defenseman is attracting the attention of many teams on the transaction market.

The Anaheim Ducks requested him in exchange for Trevor Zegras, and the Carolina Hurricanes requested him for Martin Necas.

However, each time, the general manager of the Canadiens, Kent Hughes, declined these offers. Now the Senators are offering their 7th overall pick to get Guhle, which may not be enough once again.

Newly retired Derick Brassard fully understands why Guhle is attracting so much interest, especially from the Senators.

“Take the Stanley Cup Final. There is no space on the ice. You must be able to counter the best opposing players. Thomas Chabot has been there for several years, but he needs to be supported.” (credit: Press)

“Jake Sanderson just arrived and at only 21 years old, it’s not fair to put that on his shoulders. If they can add at least two defenders capable of taking big minutes, with experience, that will help them.”

At the same time. Brassard understands why Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton refuse to trade Guhle.

“On defense, I like Kaiden Guhle. You win playoff games with defenders like him. He’s not going to lead your numerical superiorities, but counter McDavid and Matthews. A good second defender. And in Montreal, with the depth, he won’t have to play on a second wave on the power play.” (credit: Press)

Brassard really thinks that Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton will bring glory back to Montreal.

“They do things the right way. When you’re not among the NHL’s biggest destinations for free agents, you don’t have a choice to rebuild. Slafkovsky’s progress in the second half of the season is impressive.”

“At first, I was worried about his skills with the puck. He gained confidence and the puck stuck to his paddle. The projection of Juraj]Slafkovsky at 25, with his physique, he is going to be dangerous. He has the “Looks like a bully and he competes.”

Guhle and Slafkovsky are the two young people who catch my attention the most. »

The pressure is mounting for Kent Hughes, who must evaluate the best options for the future of the Canadiens, while navigating the many tempting offers for Guhle.

He wants to improve his attack….but at what cost?

Not at the price of Guhle…who seems untouchable…
