Formula 1 | Steiner maintains his criticism of Mick Schumacher

Gunther Steiner refuses to retract his recent comments regarding his former Haas F1 driver, Mick Schumacher.

He said he would not advise Alpine to recruit the 25-year-old German, angering Ralf Schumacher.

The former F1 driver is currently refusing to appear on screen with Steiner, who is the other consultant for German channel RTL.

“I stand by my words,” says Steiner about this controversy.

“I never attack anyone directly and I don’t have anything negative to say about Mick or Ralf. But when people ask me what I would do as a team boss in a certain situation, I answer honestly.

“Some things have also been taken out of context by the German press. But I give everyone the right to their own opinion and I do it myself in this way. I don’t change my mind because someone else doesn’t like it.”

Steiner is also at the centre of a legal action with and against his former employer, Haas F1.

The 59-year-old did not want to comment on the ongoing legal proceedings, simply saying: “I’m still in contact with some people and I get along very well with Nico Hulkenberg.”

“But I don’t get up in the morning to follow what’s going on there. Thanks to my previous relationships, I obviously have a better knowledge of the team, but it’s no longer my day job that takes up all my time every day.”

“The car is a bit more competitive this year than last year, which has always been the main goal and that makes me happy, also for the team itself.”
