For several days, the streets of Place Général Leman have been redone with bicycle markings in their center. Cyclists harshly criticize them on social networks. And Gracq Liège is furious. “In fact, the separate cycle paths planned for this square have given way to hatched areas, following an error in the design of the square by the authorities. And rather than finding solutions together, the authorities considered it preferable to remove the paths and make the streets cycle zones, which puts bikes back among cars where traffic is very dense.“, accuses the association for the defense of cyclists on a daily basis.
And to also demand improvements to all the developments along the tram route.
Place Leman, the Gracq points out 300 meters of tracks which become “sinister areas of hatched asphalt” (and a potential wild car park, supporting evidence). Boulevard de la Sauvenière, part of the existing tracks is removed in favor of increasing the number of parking spaces. But also no infrastructure along the Standard stadium and discontinuous or not aligned tracks on the quays of la Batte, Maestricht and Saint-Léonard.
Other problematic places: the Saint-Lambert, Déportés, Pont d’Avroy squares, rue Joffre, the Guillemins esplanade (Place S. Weil) “where cycle routes are not marked and where the choice of materials makes crossings very uncomfortable. Take the test!“
