The last day of qualifying for the CAN promised to be tricky for Tunisia and it was. The Carthage Eagles had to win against Gambia to secure first place in Group A. However, the Tunisians had only won once in their last three matches, a narrow victory against Madagascar, last of the group, Thursday November 14 (2-3). Against them, the Gambians had nothing left to play as they were assured of finishing third, after their defeat at the end of the match against the Comoros.
Nothing more after a quarter of an hour
The match got off to a flying start with a chance for each team in two minutes. The post then came to save the Gambians shortly before the quarter-hour mark with a magnificent strike from Ltaief (13′). Tunisia dominates but it is the Gambians who open the scoring (17′) after a quickly played corner. Barrow serves Ceesay perfectly who fools Dahmen. Tunisia, led, cannot do it and falls behind at the break.

In the second half, the Eagles of Carthage tried everything by bringing in new blood but nothing worked. The men of Kais Yaâkoubi, interim coach, are totally unproductive in front of goal and bow to more daring Gambians. Tunisia also lost first place in Group A to the Comoros who had a great performance of the evening.
