Connor Hughes: ‘He looks like a National League goalie’

At 28 years old, Connor Hughes comes out of nowhere, but he does great service for the Rocket.

After spending seven years in the Swiss leagues, the Ontarian accepted a contract with the Montreal Canadiens’ farm club in June. For this goalie who went through the obscure Central Canada Hockey League as a junior, it’s quite a turnaround.

«[Les Canadiens] aren’t bragging about it right now, but they should. I don’t know who scouted Connor Hughes – he played seven years in Switzerland, in Lausanne last year where he was dominant – but frankly, he looks like a National League goalie this year. indicated the voice of the Rocket to BPM Sports, Anthony Marcotte, Monday during his visit to JiC.

In seven starts, Hughes has maintained a record of 6-1-0 thus far in addition to showing an excellent save percentage of .935 and an equally good goals against average of 1.85.

“He gives his team a chance to win every game,” added Marcotte. “In addition, we give him difficult starts, as was the case last weekend in Rochester. Laval had played at Syracuse the day before and Rochester was well rested. We send Hughes in front of the net and he gives a goal and allows the Rocket to win.

The CH went there with a stroke of genius and, who knows, perhaps we will soon see it in Montreal.
