Several municipal and associative spaces in the small Charente commune of Coteaux-du-Banzacais were ransacked during the night from Saturday to Sunday.
A sad discovery. The village hall of the commune of Coteaux-du-Banzacais (Charente, about twenty kilometers south of Angoulême), but also municipal spaces and spaces dedicated to sports clubs and associations, were ransacked during the night of Saturday November 16 to Sunday November 17, reports France Bleu, La Charente Libre and Sud-Ouest.
Mayor Jean-Philippe Sallée, who says he is “disgusted”, says he has filed a complaint. No suspect has been arrested at this stage and the motivations for this massive damage remain unknown.
“Public buildings that are used on a daily basis”
In photos published by these various local media, we see broken windows and mirrors and even broken toilets. France Bleu also mentions a “kitchen area whose dishwasher (is) ravaged and out of order” or even “doors (…) shattered”. The clubhouse used by the football and pétanque associations were also vandalized.
“It’s appalling to see that we can attack public buildings which are used on a daily basis for the good of our fellow citizens,” laments the mayor of this town of barely 1,000 inhabitants.
The municipal council was to decide today on the measures to take to secure the damaged places, but the municipality was already planning on Sunday to have to cancel events. The future of the Christmas market is uncertain.
