After several weeks of waiting, Marseille finally has its coach in the person of Roberto De Zerbi, enough to finally launch the Marseille transfer window.

This Monday, Marseille announced that it had reached an agreement in principle with Roberto De Zerbi. There would only be a few elements missing to finalize before officially announcing it. “The club is currently working with all stakeholders to formalize the arrival of the Italian coach, as well as his staff on the OM bench and prepare for his arrival in Marseille in the coming days”, announces the Marseille club in a press release. According to information from RMC Sport, De Zerbi should sign a three-year contract and Brighton should recover a transfer fee of €6 million.
The objective for the new coach is clear: at least find the European Cup next season, although returning to the Champions League and winning titles are the club’s goals. For this, Marseille will have to recruit to have a competitive team from the start of the season.
OM is active on ambitious tracks
The Italian coach already seems to have very specific targets to strengthen his team. De Zerbi wants to recruit players who could adapt to his style of play based on attacking football with ball control. De Zerbi would target in particular Andrea Colpani, the attacking midfielder who plays for Monza. He would fit perfectly with his style of play but the player is quite expensive and Marseille are not the only club interested in him. Marseille has also made progress on the Lilian Brassier file. Marseille has been monitoring the Brest defender for several weeks and negotiations seem to be accelerating between the parties. Marseille should also look into the possibility of an attacker to replace Aubameyang if he were to leave Marseille. Suffice to say that the arrival of De Zerbi should finally launch the Marseille transfer window. After the announcement of the departures of Pape Gueye, Vitinha and Iliman Ndiaye, the first recruits should arrive quickly.
