Canadiens fans would certainly have liked the rumors that linked Martin Necas to Montreal last summer to come to fruition. Just take a look at the National Hockey League (NHL) scoring charts Monday morning.
Necas exploded at the start of the season. With a total of 30 points, including 11 goals, in 17 games, he is third in the NHL, only ahead of the superstars Nathan MacKinnon and Kirill Kaprizov.
Sunday night, he stretched his streak of games with at least one point to 13.
In Hurricanes history, no player had been so productive during the first 17 games of the regular season.
This is a spectacular development for this talented player who has benefited from the advice of Alex Kovalev in recent years. If he keeps up the pace, he will finish the season with 140 points.
To think that at the end of August, during an interview with TVA Sports, he confided having heard of persistent rumors with the Canadians. He also praised Montreal as one of the greatest teams, in addition to describing the Bell Center as one of his favorite amphitheaters.
But Necas won his bet by staying in Carolina. The talented Czech is the Hurricanes’ most used attacker on the power play, and the Raleigh team is enjoying success on a collective level with a record of 13-4-0, good for first place in the Metropolitan section.
If all goes well, moreover, and Necas continues his momentum, he will break the bank once his two-year contract with the Hurricanes expires. He will be able to achieve complete autonomy in the summer of 2026, at his zenith at 27 years old.
