New installation of Travelers in Narbonne – The owner of the land testifies: “I was presented with a fait accompli”

Since Sunday June 23 in the middle of the afternoon, around twenty caravans have set up on a meadow belonging to Jérôme Fabrega, a farmer in Narbonne. He has filed a complaint and is worried about the state in which he will get his land back.

It was around 3:30 p.m. this Sunday, June 23, afternoon when around twenty caravans set up, without authorization, on a meadow belonging to Jérôme Fabrega. The same land that was squatted last summer by a troupe of stuntmen.

For several days, the installation of several Traveler camps has been making headlines in Narbonnais between the annoyance of local residents and the protest of elected officials.

The owner of the place, the municipal police and the gendarmes went to meet the travelers who present themselves as evangelist pilgrims and who assure that they will leave this Sunday, June 30 at the latest. “They undertake to release the premises in perfect condition. This plot was mowed a month ago to feed my flock of sheep. With the drought, the grass is struggling to grow back. I fear the state of my meadow after their passage”explains the farmer.

This land located in Baliste is squatted for the second year in a row.

Contacted by L’Indépendant this Tuesday, June 25, the latter told us that he had filed a complaint. As he did last year against the “Monster Trucks”. Why is this plot suddenly attracting desire? This is surely because of its proximity to the city and its location on the edge of the ring road.

But for the farmer, this should not become recurring. Especially since to be able to work there, he cannot block access completely. As soon as the travelers leave, he will once again install stone blocks in such a way that they cannot be bypassed as was the case on Sunday. “I have nothing against anyone! But there should be public places to accommodate these mobile populations. It is not normal for private individuals like me to be presented with a fait accompli”he said.
