Casablanca is preparing for the 2030 World Cup. The city authorities are pulling out all the stops to successfully organize this global sporting event. Several projects have been opened here and there to make the economic capital of the kingdom more attractive and allow the many expected visitors to have a pleasant stay. “Several projects are underway. Some are supervised by FIFA, others are carried out by the municipality in consultation with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. The work includes the rehabilitation of sports complexes, such as the Mohammed V Complex or that of Larbi Zaouli,” declared Mayor Nabila Rmili, guest on 2M.

The city is working hard to comply with FIFA requirements regarding the redevelopment of roadways, major arteries and the improvement of public lighting. New specifications have been developed for the management of public lighting, signage and waste collection, informs the city councilor. “We designed this notebook using a participatory approach, including all the stakeholders concerned. It aims in particular to resolve major problems such as the Médiouna landfill, widely criticized for its environmental impact. A waste sorting and recovery plant will soon be built on 300 hectares of land. This project, whose operating life is estimated at 30 years, will eliminate the negative effects of the current management method,” she indicated.

Also, the main arteries of Casablanca, notably the boulevards Zerktouni, de La Mecca, Taddart, as well as the Bachkou roundabout, have been completely renovated. “These projects are neither one-off nor improvised. They are part of a global and concerted vision, developed in partnership with the various stakeholders. Our goal is to sustainably transform the city and equip it to meet the challenges of tomorrow,” assured Nabila Rmili. For the mayor of the economic capital of the kingdom, the projects are progressing normally because she has succeeded in meeting the challenge of coordinating these projects. “The lack of coordination was causing significant disruption, particularly during development work. Today, a unified vision makes it possible to structure operations and avoid duplication, for smoother and more efficient management.”

The mayor of Casablanca also revealed her priorities for the next three years. The city councilor wants to put an end to the illegal occupation of public property. In this sense, control of sidewalks, anarchically occupied by certain businesses and cafes, will be reinforced, with the contribution of the administrative police, she assured, announcing severe sanctions against offenders. Rmili is also keen to implement the project to harmonize facades, businesses and buildings, with particular attention paid to the standardization of tarpaulins and curtains in order to give more aesthetics to the main arteries of the city.
