As many know, New York Islanders head coach Patrick Roy can express his anger and disappointment when things go wrong and he made it clear to reporters what he thought of the quality of refereeing Saturday’s match in Seattle.

Defeated 3-2 by the Kraken, the visitors were angry with the decision to grant the decisive goal scored late in the third period by Jamie Oleksiak. When the defender took a shot, Brandon Tanev hit goaltender Ilya Sorokin, who immediately gave in. Despite a challenge from Roy, the officials maintained their verdict, much to Casseau’s dismay.

Unsurprisingly, he was in a sullen mood when he answered questions from the media.

“I guess I don’t understand the rule. Because sometimes it’s enough, and other times it’s not. Someone will have to explain to me what is enough and what is not. You either head into the goalie zone or you don’t do it yourself. You hit the goalkeeper or you don’t,” he said.

Specifically, Roy told scribes that the referees justified the upholding of the goal as an obstruction, although real, that did not include strong enough contact.

“This is the first time I’ve heard this. I guess I didn’t play enough matches,” he quipped.

The Islanders will try to get back to winning ways on Tuesday at the home of the Calgary Flames.
