Convincing debut for Uruguay and the United States

Uruguay and the United States made convincing debuts in the Copa America. They dominated Panama (3-1) and Bolivia (2-0) respectively on Sunday in Group C.

In Miami, in front of several thousand supporters, Marcelo Bielsa’s Celeste – still installed on his cooler – started the match perfectly thanks to his young winger Maximiliano Araujo, author of a left strike from outside the area, in the top corner (1-0, 15th).

Uruguay generally dominated but had to wait until the end of the match to widen the gap. Liverpool center forward Darwin Núñez doubled the lead with a left-footed rebound in the 85th minute, before defender Matías Viña added to the score with a header in the 91st minute. Panama saved honor at the 95th.

Uruguay confirmed its favorite status but will have to be wary of the United States, led by their captain Christian Pulisic, who also successfully entered the competition, at home against Bolivia, in Arlington.

Like Araujo, the AC Milan striker started the match perfectly with a clear shot – from the right – under the bar, after not even three minutes of play (1-0). Then, before the break, he served the Monegasque Folarin Balogun, who concluded with a cross shot into the small net (2-0, 44th).
