Already fined against Spain, Croatia was once again sanctioned by UEFA for lighting smoke bombs and throwing objects against Albania.

UEFA has fined the Croatian Football Federation (HNS) over incidents during the Euro 2024 match between Croatia and Albania, the Croatian Football Federation said in a statement on Saturday. The HNS will have to pay 28,000 euros due to “the lighting of smoke bombs and the throwing of objects by certain supporters during the match played on June 19 in Hamburg”.

Croats on the brink

Croatia had already been fined after their first match in Group B against Spain, losing 3-0. “The Croatian Football Federation thanks the Croatian fans for their excellent support and once again asks them to refrain from lighting and throwing smoke bombs,” reads the text of the HNS press release.

2022 World Cup semi-finalist Croatia faces elimination from the Euro 2024 group stage after losing to Spain 3-0 and drawing 2-2 against Albania. They will likely need to win their final Group B match against defending champions Italy on June 24 to reach the knockout stage in a fifth major tournament in a row.
