The German Niels Wittich, racing director in Formula 1 since 2022 replacing the controversial Michael Masi, has left his position and will be replaced by the Portuguese Rui Marques, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) announced on Tuesday.

Wittich, 52, was named co-race director at the start of 2022 alongside Portuguese Eduardo Freitas to replace Australian Michael Masi, removed from his post after his controversial decisions which allowed Max Verstappen to win the title at the last Grand Prix. of the 2021 season. He has held this role alone since the end of 2022, after Freitas was also dismissed, paying for his management of the Japanese Grand Prix 2022, where Verstappen was titled in grotesque conditions.
