In 2021, Logan Mailloux asked teams not to select him in the draft for the reasons we know today.
But that didn’t stop Marc Bergevin from choosing him 31st, at the end of the first round.
At the time, it caused a lot of talk.
The selection of Mailloux caused a stir because by choosing him, the Canadian automatically embarked on a media circus.
The defender’s reputation was not at its best, and the CH CEO at the time found himself at the heart ofa lot of criticism.
But three years and a few months later, Mailloux is now established as one of the Montreal organization’s good prospects because he has enjoyed success since his professional debut.
He notably scored a magnificent goal last night to give the Rocket the victory, and Grant McCagg took the opportunity to say on Twitter that Mailloux will become quite an NHL player in a few years.
This is where it gets interesting: the (very) colorful Tony DeAngelo shared McCagg’s post… to come to Marc Bergevin’s defense.
For the defenseman who plays with Ivan Demidov in Russia, Bergevin should never have been criticized for selecting a “first-round talent” in the first round of the draft:
We know Tony DeAngelo as an offensive defenseman who collected his share of points in the National League.
In fact, he is best known as a guy who doesn’t hesitate to speak loudly. He has notably found himself in somewhat precarious situations in the past due to his actions off the ice.
But if DeAngelo made this outing earlier today, it’s because he believes in the potential of Logan Mailloux… And it’s because he thinks that Marc Bergevin made the right choice by even selecting him if Mailloux had asked clubs to avoid him.
And it’s certain that DeAngelo is not alone in the world on his island because NHL players are capable of recognizing a guy’s talent. Especially in the context where before the Mailloux story, he was seen as being an almost assured choice in the top-20…
That said, Tony DeAngelo defending Marc Bergevin, I didn’t have that in my predictions for the day when I got up this morning.

– Will it be claimed?
– The Sheriff!
– Who will win the Vezina this year?
– I adore.
– He is on another planet.
