After obtaining its qualification by finishing second in its group, the French junior team meets again. This time, the stakes will be lower, with two friendly matches. After a trip to Italy, Friday November 15, the Bleuets will play four days later in Valenciennes, to face Germany.
Two shocks to test yourself
Facing Italy, the Bleuets have good memories. Led by Sylvain Ripoll, the French won in the group stage of Euro 2023 against the Italians. But if the numbers change, we will have to remain vigilant against a team which finished first in its qualifying group for Euro 2025, without the slightest defeat. A merit that the French team, second in its group behind Slovenia, cannot boast of.
Germany, the Bleuets’ second opponent, has similarities with Italy. She also finished at the top of her qualifying group, while remaining undefeated. Another major opponent for the French, who will take advantage of this shock to put in place automatisms.
Two last minute absentees
Gérald Baticle revealed the list of players called up on November 7. If he were to make his first selection in the hopeful jersey, Thierno Barry will ultimately be absent, since he is injured. The Villarreal player is replaced by the Bavarian Mathys Tel. Quentin Merlin will also miss the gathering, replaced by Kassoum Ouattara.
Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi will have his first call-up with the Bleuets, having had a very good start to the season. The group also includes 15 players present in the French championships (Ligue 1 and Ligue 2), out of the 23 called up.
Gérald Baticle declared before this gathering to be satisfied to have “achieved the objective » qualifying for the Euro. With four matches to prepare for – since there will be another break in the spring with two other friendly matches – the French coach wants to see different players developed to call up those who suit him most for the Euro. “We cannot consider these as friendly matches, they are preparation matches for the Euro”he explained.
