MLS: plunged into a coma for a month, former FC Cincinnati Marco Angulo passes away

Ecuadorian FC Cincinnati player Marco Angulo died from serious injuries sustained in a car collision on October 7, the Ecuador soccer association announced Tuesday.

Angulo, 22, was in the passenger seat during an incident on a highway southeast of the country’s capital, Quito.

A former teammate of Anguelo, Roberto Cabezas, also lost his life in the accident.

Angulo suffered significant lacerations to his head, as well as a bruised lung. He had been placed in an artificial coma, but died Monday evening, according to the daily The Universe.

A defensive midfielder, Angulo played in the Ecuadorian first division for champion club LDU Quito after being loaned out by FC Cincinnati.

He made his debut for the senior national team of Ecuador in November 2022, in a friendly match against Iraq.

Angulo joined Cincinnati in December 2022 and was part of the 2023 edition of the Ohio club that won the Supporters’ Shields by finishing first in the MLS standings.

He then played 24 games, collecting two assists.
