“It’s not the first time [que des propos] in this way are held in the world of sport, lamented the double Grand Slam singles champion on social networks. I have often chosen to remain silent, but this time, I believe it is time to resolve the issues of professionalism and respect for sports media.
While he was on the air via video conference, but thinking he was not, American sports journalist Jon Wertheim made a remark about the camera angle not favoring him.
The one who also works for the Sports Illustrated drew a parallel with the forehead of Krejcikova, whose photo had just been presented on the screen as part of a program.
Wertheim later attempted to apologize for X, pointing out that his remarks were “neither professional nor representative of the person [qu’il] wish to be”, but the damage was done.
For an indefinite period
Tennis Channel suspended him indefinitely on Sunday, stressing that the comments were “inappropriate” and that the television channel’s standards of respect for others were high. “They were not respected,” the media company claimed.
Krejcikova, who also holds seven major doubles titles, called such comments “disappointing.”
“I am an athlete who dedicates myself entirely to my sport,” said the 28-year-old, who was defeated in the semi-final of the WTA Finals. […] These moments distract us from the true essence of sport and the dedication of all athletes. I love tennis deeply and I want it to be represented in a way that honors the commitment that drives us to compete at this level.”
