Sevilla FC announced on Monday the departure of its central defender Sergio Ramos, 38, who returned to his training club 18 years after leaving for Real Madrid, where he won everything.

“Sergio Ramos has announced to Sevilla FC that he will not stay at the club next season, after realizing his dream of returning to the club where he was trained and where he obtained international status,” wrote the Andalusian team in a press release.

Sevilla FC “would like to thank Sergio Ramos for his commitment, leadership and dedication he has shown this season, wishing him the best of luck in his next professional challenge.”

The former captain of the Spanish selection, who had refused offers from Saudi Arabia to return to help his training club, in economic and sporting difficulties, will bid farewell to his supporters late Tuesday morning.

He demonstrated, by playing 37 matches in all competitions with the Andalusian club this season, particularly in the Champions League, that he still had good leftovers, and did not yet seem ready to retire.

The former PSG and Real Madrid player is considered one of the greatest defenders in history, with an immense track record (25 titles including a World Cup, 2 European Championships, 4 Champions Leagues, 5 Liga and 2 Ligue 1).
