Licensing Commission, resumption of training and company tribunal: crucial week ahead for Standard

Summer is coming and the sky remains desperately overcast above the Sclessin stadium. A meteorological observation which also and above all applies to the extra-sporting situation of Standard as three key dates loom this week.

First of all, let us remember that the investment bank Moelis&Co is continuing the sales process after the inventory carried out by the company B. Riley. One of the first steps is the opening of the data room which allows potential buyers to study the file in depth. This famous opening is expected very soon. Whose ? That’s the whole question.

Some maintain that Lucien D’Onofrio continues to work in complete discretion and that he has recently discussed with Indian investors.

The other main interests would come from abroad. A Qatari track, completely independent of D’Onofrio, would be open, without knowing precisely whether or not it is a multi-club network.

In the meantime, three other deadlines are arriving this week at Standard. Here they are.

Tuesday June 18: License Commission

It is for this Tuesday, June 18, at 11 a.m. precisely, that the Standard must put itself in order in relation to the intermediate control of the Licenses Commission. It is a question of debts to be settled, under penalty of new sanctions which would be added to the transfer ban still in force since May 8.

If the club is unable to prove its regularization, a procedure for withdrawal of points (three, initially) will be activated for the 2024-2025 season.

Thursday June 20: resumption of training

Initially scheduled for the 17th, it was finally postponed to June 20. Still with Ivan Leko as head coach. As a reminder, while the medical staff saw the doctor and two physiotherapists from the first team leave, the sports staff – including assistants Bernd Thijs and José Jeunechamps – remain in place, with the exception of physical trainer Léo Djaoui who is ‘go away.

As usual, the recovery will begin with two days of physical and medical tests, this Thursday and Friday at the academy. Given the thinness of the core, several elements of the SL16 FC should accompany core A during preparation.

The first friendly match is scheduled for Saturday June 29 (5 p.m.) in Aubel, while the training camp in the Netherlands has been canceled.

Friday June 21: company court

Both former president Bruno Venanzi and current managers are impatiently awaiting this judgment from the Liège business court, which will be delivered on Friday.

As a reminder, Bruno Venanzi is demanding from Standard the repayment of a loan he had granted to the club at the time of the resale, to the tune of 3 million euros (interest included). A loan whose repayment was not honored on the agreed deadlines but which Standard contests because it considers that Venanzi is held criminally responsible for having committed faults during his mandate at the head of the club.

The club’s defense requested a stay of proceedings pending the end of the criminal proceedings. We will therefore be fixed at the end of the week.
