Belgium will finally launch its Euro 2024 this Monday, against Slovakia. Several uncertainties persist, but here is the composition which could be aligned by Domenico Tedesco to start the meeting.
Goalie
A position without a doubt. In the absence of Thibaut Courtois, it was Koen Casteels who was chosen by Domenico Tedesco to be the first goalkeeper of the Devils.
Defenders
The uncertainties lie here. Until yesterday, we would have easily written that the starting defense should be made up of Maxim De Cuyper, Wout Faes, Zeno Debast and Timothy Castagne.
However, at a press conference, Domenico Tedesco caused a little confusion. Jan Vertonghen and Arthur Theate have trained and will, at a minimum, be on the match sheet. Will that be enough to see them start? Will our coach take the risk? Impossible to say with certainty.
Midfielders
Amadou Onana is an essential pawn in Tedesco’s eyes and should start the meeting. If Youri Tielemans performed particularly well during the last international break, notably scoring a double at Wembley, it is Orel Mangala who should be favored to accompany the Everton player.
Domenico Tedesco likes to combine the two players in the heart of the game and could count on a more defensive Mangala to cover, on the left side, the excesses of De Cuyper. In front of the two men, of course, the captain: Kevin De Bruyne.
Attackers
Should we mention that Romelu Lukaku will start? It is to support the top scorer in the history of the selection that several questions arise. Everyone is fit, Domenico Tedesco will have to make choices.
As we explained to you this week, we opt for Yannick Carrasco on the left side, better able to control the defensive tasks possibly left by the numerous excesses of Maxim De Cuyper. A theory which therefore applies if Arthur Theate does not start the meeting.
On the right, the race is open. Nobody would understand if Jérémy Doku started the match on the bench, but Johan Bakayoko, Leandro Trossard and Dodi Lukebakio also have every chance. The last city has often been used since March 2023 and could be the surprise of this composition, with a Doku, on the bench, ready to dynamite the meeting if necessary.
Frequently targeted by tackles, which remain, for many defenders, the only way to stop him, Jérémy Doku will certainly not play every minute of every match of the tournament. It is therefore not unthinkable to see him start on the bench, but it is, perhaps, the biggest question of this probable composition.
