A paradoxical situation. On June 3, the Élysée indicated to Paris news that Emmanuel Macron had proposed renewing the mandate of his former Prime Minister at the head of the RATP. The latter was due to end on July 23, three days before the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The interview with parliamentarians postponed

One last formality remained to be completed: the approval of parliamentariansmandatory passage to validate the continuation of Jean Castex’s mission begun in October 2022. Except that from the National Assembly, the Head of State dissolved the National Assembly after the large victory of the National Rally in the Europeans.

The commission responsible for hearing Jean Castex was therefore dissolved and the president and CEO of the Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens must therefore wait at least for the second round of the Legislative elections on July 7 before knowing who he will have to present himself to.

What solutions?

He himself admitted on the sidelines of the inauguration of line 11 of the metro this Thursday, June 13, that his situation was unclear. “It indeed seems very unlikely that the new assembly which will result from the ballot boxes will have had the time to reconstitute its entire organization and its commissions to be able to hear me within this time frame,” he declared in remarks reported by Le Figaro.

The former Prime Minister then explained that “interim procedures” existed and that they would at least be used to cover the period of the Olympics. “It hardly seems possible or conceivable to me that a company like RATP would be without a CEO during the Olympic and Paralympic Games,” he added.

For the future, in order to continue his mandate, Jean Castex will have to find an agreement with the new majority which will come out of the polls on July 7.
