This is only the second day of classes in Villaz-Saint-Pierre for second-year apprentice community health and care assistants (ASSC), who were still attending the St-Justin premises in Fribourg, last year. And the change seems widely appreciated: the new, more spacious classrooms, a welcoming cafeteria with meals at affordable prices, and modern premises make everyday life more pleasant. “There is room to put two beds, it’s perfect,” says Denise Carrel, a nurse and trainer for twenty years. While supervising a practical workshop on injections, she explains: “Here, I can follow two students at the same time, something more complicated before.”
The 40 square meter premises seem to meet the needs of various professional sectors. Some organizations, such as OrTra Santé-Social, have even signed a 25-year lease to secure their presence on the site, a decision dictated by strong demand. “Our apprentices are increasing exponentially, and our old premises had become too small,” underlines Christophe Monney, director of OrTra Santé-Social Fribourg, which represents around 700 people in training.
More generally, the canton of Friborg currently has around 8,000 apprenticeship contracts. The objective of Campus Le Vivier is to centralize their inter-company courses to improve the efficiency and quality of training. “Before, the courses were spread throughout the canton, some in dilapidated buildings,” explains Christophe Nydegger, head of the Vocational Training Department.
For those who wish to discover this new space, the center will open its doors to the public this Saturday. More than 50 professions will be represented there, and visitors will be able to participate in practical workshops led by apprentices.
