Félix Lebrun lost this Friday evening in the quarter-finals of the WTT Champions in Frankfurt. The Frenchman, world No. 5, lost against the Olympic vice-champion, Truls Moregaard.
The great series ends there for Félix Lebrun. Two weeks after his historic victory at the WTT Champions in Montpellier, the greatest title of his career, the French No. 1 and world No. 5 lost in the quarter-finals of the WTT Champions in Frankfurt.
It was the formidable Truls Moregaard who put an end to his journey, in four sets (11-7, 11-6, 5-11, 13-11). Félix Lebrun was however the favorite for this meeting, because he is better ranked than his opponent (11th in the world), and especially because he had beaten him in their three previous confrontations. But Moregaard is a head cutter, who took out world No. 1 Wang Chuqin at the Olympic Games before going for the silver medal.
Félix Lebrun gave in
The Swede started the match very strong, winning the first set, in order to inflict a terrible 9-0 on the Frenchman during the second act. Félix Lebrun reacted well in the third set, and he saved two match points in the fourth set (8-10), before offering himself an equalizer at two sets everywhere (11-10). But it was Moregaard who had the last word in this intense and spectacular encounter, which the Swede punctuated by repeating the celebration of his compatriot Viktor Gyokeres, Sporting's serial scorer.
Moregaard will face another Swede, Anton Kallberg, in the semi-finals. Félix Lebrun can plan on his next goals, such as the Masters, in Fukuoka (November 20-24).
“We will come back stronger”promised the French No. 1.
