Algeria Football – Due to a financial dispute, a major African country risks being excluded from the next African Cup of Nations (CAN) in Morocco by the CAS.
Tunisia’s qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) in Morocco is currently threatened by a major legal obstacle. Although the Carthage Eagles team seems on track to secure its place, financial tensions risk compromising this success.
Tunisian media report that the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) could find itself in a delicate situation following a conflict with coach Mehdi Nafti. The latter, who had managed the national team before being sacked in favor of Faouzi Benzarti, is still demanding overdue payments for his services. Indeed, after his departure, Nafti filed a complaint concerning unpaid debts.
The situation has taken a worrying turn with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which has already contacted the FTF to notify it that a rapid resolution of this matter was imperative. If the claims are not settled as soon as possible, the Tunisian Federation could face severe sanctions. This would potentially include the exclusion of Tunisia from international competitions, including the highly anticipated CAN 2025, which will take place in Morocco between December 21, 2025 and January 18, 2026.
This situation constitutes a serious blow to Tunisian football, which is forced to quickly resolve its financial disputes in order to avoid a disaster scenario. The Tunisian authorities will have to act quickly to guarantee the presence of their national team in Morocco and avoid serious sporting consequences.
