Justin Poirier scored in a fifth straight game and the Baie-Comeau Drakkar defeated the Cape Breton Eagles 3-1 to win a fifth straight game on Thursday.

Poirier this time hit the target in an empty cage in addition to being an accomplice in Louis-Charles Plourde’s winning goal in the third period.

During this winning streak for the Côte- team, Poirier totaled nine goals and 17 points. His teammate Matyas Melovsky, who collected two assists on Thursday, had four goals and 16 points in five games.

Jules Boilard also threaded the needle for the Drakkar. Goaltender Lucas Beckman allowed just one goal on the Eagles’ 28 shots.

After starting the season with six straight losses, the Eagles were enjoying recent success with eight wins in their last nine outings. However, they slipped against the Drakkar, third in the Eastern Association of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) by virtue of a record of 12-5-1.

Dylan Andrews was the only scorer for the Maritime team. Jakub Milota stopped 27 pucks.

The Phoenix returns to the victorious path

The Sherbrooke Phoenix ended a three-game losing streak by coming from behind to defeat the Cataractes 4-2 in Shawinigan.

With the Phoenix losing 2-0, Lewis Gendron began the comeback midway through the match with his third goal of the season. Hugo Primeau, twice, and Maxime Côté then added more.

19-year-old Latvian Linards Feldbergs blocked 19 shots to sign his seventh victory in nine games in his first season in the QMJHL.

Mathieu Plante scored his first goal on the Cecchini circuit in the defeat. Vince Elie also made the red light shine for the Cataractes, who had won their last two matches.

Liam Sztuska gave up four times on 31 shots.

Houde scores the decisive goal for Victo

The Victoriaville Tigres ended a two-game losing streak by defeating the Saint-Jean Sea Dogs 3-2 in Victoriaville.

Olivier Houde made the decision with his ninth goal of the campaign eight minutes 19 seconds into the third period.

Alexis Bourque and Justin Larose had previously given the local favorites the lead, but Zachary Morin and Eriks Mateiko brought the two clubs back to equal footing.

Gabriel D’Aigle got the victory with 29 saves. At the other end of the ice, Charles-Édward Gravel scored three goals on 24 shots.
