110m hurdles run alone, personal best… Crazy scenario for Makenson Gletty

Third in the decathlon after five events, Monday June 10, Makenson Gletty had a strange start to the day, Tuesday June 11, at the European Championships in Rome.

Technical problem during the first race of the 110m hurdles

In the 110m hurdles, the first event of the day, the sixth of the decathlon, the Frenchman, frozen in the starting blocks, was the victim of a technical problem, leaving all the competitors in his series to put him several meters ahead. The Frenchman still finished his race in a mediocre time for him: 15”30.

The France group lodged a complaint, which was heard: just half an hour later, Gletty ran again, all alone… in 13”88, a new personal best. Over time, he became the new provisional leader of the decathlon.

To give him time to breathe, the 25-year-old athlete was moved to group B in the discus throw. Gletty, in Olympic form, has already broken four personal bests in this decathlon. Enough to aim for the minimums (8460 points) for the Games, even if his place in the World Athletics rankings should allow him to compete in Paris this summer.
