Shortly after the end of the 2024 F1 Canadian Grand Prix, the stewards summoned the race organizer, Octane Racing Group, indicating in their summons that a “Invasion of the track by spectators [a eu lieu] before the conclusion of the Canadian GP”.

Spectators were thus visibly authorized to join the track even though the lap of honor had not been completed and certain cars had not yet reached the parc ferme.

According to information from Motorsport.comthis is not the first time that this situation has occurred in Montreal and the authorities therefore wanted to tighten the screw with this summons.

A record attendance of 350,000 spectators over the four days of the event was set this weekend, more than the 345,000 last year.

Early circuit invasions are nothing new in F1 and, as recently as last season, it was the organizers of the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne who had to justify a similar situation which saw the protocols of FIA security may be infringed.

In addition to having set foot on the track even though cars were still running, some spectators had managed to reach Nico Hülkenberg’s abandoned car. The direct consequence of these incidents was the ban on track invasion for the 2024 edition, putting an end to an old tradition of the semi-urban route.

A similar incident also took place in Brazil last year.
