Standard managed to beat Sint-Truiden last weekend with more luck than skill. Les Rouches thus find themselves in eighth place, one point behind sixth, La Gantoise. In addition, a summer reinforcement was finally able to stand out against the Canaries.
Standard has hired Sotiris Alexandropoulos from Sporting CP. The 22-year-old midfielder struggled to adapt during the first weeks of the season. Against Sint-Truiden, he knew how to show himself.
The talented player, who played on loan last year for Olympiakos, was never really worried about his place in the team. “I never felt like I wasn’t part of the coach’s plans,” said the player, who has nine caps with the Greek national team.
“I needed a little patience, maybe a little more time to adapt to a more physical game, even though I am well prepared physically,” he told *La Last Hour*.
Andi Zeqiri was impressed by Alexandropoulos. He now seems to be a safe bet in Standard’s starting team. “I see his work daily, and it doesn’t surprise me what I saw against Sint-Truiden. With the ball, he is very technical and he knows how to make the right passes between the lines. But on top of that, he has a fighting spirit,” said the striker.
Standard also have the option to buy the midfielder permanently next summer, but it will cost €3 million. The people of Liége will then have to find financial solutions to make this purchase a reality.
