With five points out of twelve, Beerschot seems to be slowly getting back on track, even if the Antwerp club still has a lot of work to do to avoid relegation. Furthermore, the turmoil behind the scenes continues with significant changes announced in the upper echelons of the club.
Departure of Thorsten Theys, arrival of Baki
This morning we learned that Thorsten Theys, appointed CEO only last summer, has resigned. The cause of this departure appears to be friction between management and shareholders, who refuse to take decisive action. However, behind the scenes, the future of the club is being prepared.
According to The Newspaperthe new strongman of Beerschot could be the Turkish businessman Selahattin Baki. The latter has already contributed to the management of Sheffield United for United World and could now turn to the Antwerp club.
Baki and Akin to revitalize Beerschot
Advisor to Saudi Prince Abdullah, Baki is known in England for having forged links between Al Hilal and Fenerbahçe. According to the daily, he would not come to Antwerp alone. Alongside him, Murat Akin, a 38-year-old Belgian of Turkish origin and former player for Beveren and Saint-Nicolas, would take the position of sports director. Akin had already successfully occupied this role a year and a half ago at Fatih Karagümruk.
A rescue operation in preparation
With the winter transfer period in sight, where Dirk Kuyt hopes for essential reinforcements, the rescue operation is taking shape at Beerschot. All that remains to be seen is whether this restructuring will provide the boost needed to turn the club around. To be followed closely.
