Nothing is going well at the moment for the Canadian who has lost 6 of his last 8 matches and who is currently on a streak of three consecutive defeats.

Languishing in last place in the Atlantic Division with a record of 4-7-1 for a total of 9 points in 12 games, the CH is also in 30th place in the general NHL rankings.

For several weeks now, we have heard several pieces of information circulating to the effect that the DG Kent Hughes would currently be very active behind the scenes, trying to conclude a transaction to improve his team. According to several journalists and insiders, he is looking for an attacker with character as well as a defender.

Among the names starting to circulate on the market, one of the most intriguing is probably that of the young defender Simon the German of the New Jersey Devils. He who was drafted just behind Juraj Slafkovsky during the 2022 auction has not played since October 22, left out of his team’s last five games by the head coach Sheldon Keefe.

Could it be available on the market?

If this is the case, the facilitator Stéphane Gonzalez would give a lot to acquire it. During a recent broadcast of Laraque & Gonzalez on the waves of BPM Sportshere’s what he had to say on the subject.

I can’t believe Simon Nemec would be available in New Jersey!

And then, give me your Armia offers plus a choice of 2, it won’t happen. If the Canadian wants to get a quality player, he will have to pay.

Me, if Nemec is available, I am ready to give a lot! I give David Reinbacher and something more for him.

– Stéphane Gonzalez

Nemec, who is the fellow Slovak and one of the best friends of Juraj Slafkovskywould immediately solidify the team’s defensive brigade and accelerate the rebuilding process by a few years even though he is a year older than David Reinbacher and is already ready to play in the NHL, having finished last season with a record of 3 goals and 19 assists for 19 points in 60 games. For his part, Reinbacher is not only in the American League but will also lose a year of development this season due to his knee surgery.

As Gonzalez points out, it would be surprising if the Devils wanted to trade Nemec, but their great depth on the blue line could force them to make important decisions in the near future.

  • Aged 20, Simon the German is a 6’1″/190lbs right-handed defenseman selected in the 1st round (2nd overall) in the 2022 draft. So far this season he has collected 1 assist in 9 games.
  • Aged 20, David Reinbacher is a 6’3″/207lbs right-handed defenseman selected in the 1st round (5th overall) in the 2023 draft. In 11 games last year in the American League, he compiled a record of 2 goals and 3 assists for a total of 5 points.

Would you be ready to conclude such a transaction if you were GM of the Canadiens? What would you give in addition to Reinbacher for Nemec?
