Carlo Ancelotti ‘doesn’t have the heart to talk about football’ after floods

On the eve of returning to his former club AC Milan in the Champions League, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti explained Monday that he “did not have the heart to talk about ” after the violent floods which caused least 217 deaths last week in southern Spain. “We are very sad. I hope you understand that I don’t have the heart to talk about football. It’s a special match for me, I would love to talk about that, but I will try to talk as little as possible,” said Ancelotti, who appeared very touched at the press conference.

“Football takes a back seat. With what happened, we don’t have the energy to work. We inform ourselves, we watch, we read. And what happened is truly incredible, terrible,” he added.

“No one should have played this weekend”

Real Madrid, who were due to travel to Valencia on Saturday in La Liga, saw their match postponed and therefore did not play this weekend, just like Villarreal and Rayo Vallecano, but the other matches of the twelfth day were maintained , despite opposition from several coaches and players.

“No one should have played this weekend, it would have been the right decision to make. But it’s not us who decide,” regretted the Italian technician, believing he had “no power” to go against the decisions of the authorities. Asked about the political management of the tragedy, Ancelotti explained that he was not there to “give his opinion”, but that he understood “the frustration” of the victims, some of whom “lost everything”.
