An impressive 61-yard field goal by kicker Tyler Bass with five seconds left in the game gave the Buffalo Bills a 30-27 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.

Bass scored a powerful and perfect kick that passed through the middle of the posts and did not run out of gas in front of the force of his kick because he not only sent the ball between the two posts, he even reached the first row of fans in the end zone. This is the longest field goal in Bills history.

Bass was perfect in three attempts. In addition to his game-winning shot, he also made field goals of 40 and 49 yards.

This victory allows the Bills (7-2) to remain perfect in front of their fans in four games.

The two teams traded leads four times in the second half, including seven consecutive possessions that ended with points – four by the Bills (7-2) and three by the Dolphins (2-6).

The Bills’ final offensive drive was stopped at the 43 line in Dolphins territory and head coach Sean McDermott decided to trust Bass, who had missed a convert earlier in the game.

Before Bass’ game-winning field goal, the Dolphins were able to tie the game when Jaylen Waddle caught a seven-yard pass from Tua Tagovailoa with 1:38 left on the scoreboard.

The Bills’ final offensive drive was stopped at the 43 line in Dolphins territory and head coach Sean McDermott decided to trust Bass, who had missed a convert earlier in the game.

“He did it. I didn’t, McDermott said when asked if he was proud of dispatching Bass. I think this is a great example of mental toughness. I think it’s a great example of perseverance, resilience, and for young people. I couldn’t be more proud of him and what he did today.”

Tagovailoa has very little to reproach himself for in this sixth defeat in eight games for the Dolphins. The quarterback completed 25 of 28 yards for 231 yards. In addition to the touchdown pass to Waddle, Tua also connected with De’Von Achane for 14 yards in the second quarter for a major. Achane also added a touchdown on an eight-yard run in the fourth quarter, making it 20-20.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen was also solid with 25 passes completed in 39 attempts for 235 yards in gains. Three of his passes turned into touchdowns. In the third quarter, he connected with Mack Hollins for a yard. Ray Davis scored a major on a 63-yard pass, which was followed by a double conversion in the third quarter. Then, in the final quarter, Allen connected with Quintin Morris for two yards to give the Bills a momentary lead 27-20.

This is a hard blow for the Florida team, who saw their chances of participating in the playoffs almost go up in smoke with this third consecutive defeat.

“There’s no moral victory in this game,” Dolphins defensive player Campbell said. It wasn’t enough. (…) It’s heartbreaking, but we just have to use this to motivate ourselves and continue to prepare this week and find a way to win next week. »

“Hats off to Tyler Bass for pulling this off. Hats off to their team, they did a great job. It was a great match, Tagovailoa said. There are things we could improve on both ends of the floor, offensively and defensively, but I think we are taking a step in the right direction as a team. »

The Dolphins have lost their last nine games in Buffalo, a streak dating back to December 24, 2016.
