It’s rare to see a player of David Pastrnak’s caliber warm up the bench for an entire period, but head coach Jim Montgomery was clearly not satisfied with his work.

In the third period of a game that the Boston Bruins won 2-0 against the Seattle Kraken, the Czech forward did not spend a single second on the ice. Many wondered if Pastrnak was covering an injury.

“It was a decision by the coach in the third period. That’s all I’ll say,” Montgomery said at a press briefing after the meeting.

In this meeting, Pastrnak fired no fewer than seven shots at the cage defended by Joey Daccord, but none hit the mark. In the first period, he even seemed to have the Kraken goalkeeper at his mercy, except he never shot.

Was it just a punishment or did Montgomery resent Pastrnak? The 28-year-old right winger is his team’s top scorer and point guard this season, with six goals and 11 points.
